Great Blue Heron Festival 2016

Sometime in the past ten years I met Barry Smith, the banjo player with Tiger Maple String Band, he introduced me to the rest of the band and their families and we became fast friends.  What has become the best part of the music, for me, is the Orange Lot Sessions on Thursday night before the festival begins.  The folks from TMSB and some of the other groups playing at the festival gather at Dan's camper and play tunes as long as we can.  Dan is Lori's dad, she's in the band. They are caught here enjoying the extra half hour of Jim Lauderdale's set. Fred and his daughters Justine and Ali make up the rest of the band.
I got to escape HQ early enough Sunday morning to join them as they led the old time jam in the workshop tent.
