Signs of the Times

Today marks the official end of the January thaw. Unfortunately tomorrow begins the February extension of it. All hope is not lost though. Back in 1993 we hadn't had any snow on the ground until the third week of February, then a week later it was up to a foot deep. That didn't change until March 14 when we got hit with a blizzard with a couple more feet of snow. We had a foot of snow on the ground until April 1 (all stats compiled by Cornell at Game Farm Rd.). So perhaps we have seven weeks of skiing ahead? For now, I hope people are paying attention to the signs around campus.

When will people start taking the signs seriously? Oh yeah, when it affects them negatively.

Of course there has still been enough ice in Cascadilla Creek to close the trail. Actually it's been closed for a couple years due to unsafe conditions but Cornell has been rebuilding it and were able to work well into December before ice built up on the walls. This is the big fix so falling ice and rocks don't destroy part of the path every winter. That's the plan anyway, and it looks like it just might work.
