Sweet Sunny South

There is a claim that Port Royal, a neighboring community is the oldest continuously inhabited settlement in North America.  That's just a bit of the interesting history of the region.  The historic marker in the top picture is from a church cemetery in Beaufort.  The bottom picture is from the national cemetery in town, it's the only one in the country with Union and Confederate soldiers.  In addition, there are many black Union soldiers, a German POW from WWII and many markers of soldiers who served in three or even four conflicts.
