Northeast Mountains and Lakes

For our last hike we hooked up with friends from Vermont to climb North Twin Mountain, another over 4000'.  The trail started out along an old railroad grade but was made more interesting when it crossed the Little River three times.  We tried to imagine making the crossing in the spring during high water but were relieved to be there when we were.

Since I was the only one who hadn't been up South Twin, another 4000' peak, I went ahead and added a mile over and back.  Despite it being sunny down below the summits were socked in by clouds so there was no view beyond 100' feet once again.  By the time I got back to North Twin the clouds were breaking up, offering us spectacular views of Galehead Hut and Galehead Mountain, Franconia Ridge and seemingly endless mountains to the south and west.  A dispute arose between Tii and Bill of the identity of one distant peak.  Soon a pint of ice cream was on the line and multiple maps were produced.  Not sure we ever figured out what we were looking at, but it Tii will be buying the ice cream.  Hope Bill shares some with Kate.

Gail and I were just happy to be sharing another wonderful trip to the mountains with friends and family again.
