We had a dinner at Lisa G’s in Lake Placid, there is a porch
along the river for dining but we were a bit chilled by the 50-degree temps after
our hike (and I swam in a way-too-cold river) so we sat inside. Afterwards we walked around the village a bit
to see the Olympic sites. I’m always
amazed that the Olympics used to be able to be put on in a small-town with some events such as the speed skating on a track in front of the high school or in an arena that only seats a couple thousand. That’s the miracle that really happened that
year.
I remember being in Joe’s Pizza on Portage St. when Al
Micheals exclaimed, “Do you believe in miracles?” Gail remembers being in Spanish class when
the announcement came over the school PA system that Eric Heiden won his fifth
gold medal. Funny, everyone from Madison
looks alike, I swear that’s Martha pointing at the sign.
