24. St Paul to Madison, via Duluth

Our last stop before Madison was Devil's Lake State Park, one of Gail's favorite places.  She hadn't been there since college and I'd never been.  I wondered the wisdom of taking a day off here when we arrived on Sunday afternoon and the beach looked like the top photo.  We were told in Baraboo, the closest town, home of the Little Village Cafe, that we wouldn't get in if we were driving a car as the lots were full.  Another advantage of biking.  But the water was great, and when we got up Monday to hike around the lake the second photo shows what the same beach looks like at 8 am.  This family was modestly wading at the south end of the lake, until the mother showed up with life jackets and they stripped down to their underpants and really got in.
