Family Visit

Much of my family came to the Ithaca area for a long stay in July.  Sue has taken over the role of renting a place and found a nice house in Freeville on Fall Creek and just about everybody was able to come for a few hours, a few days or the whole week.  We weren't too good about getting a group photo, but the group was never really that large so small group photos have to suffice.

Three of the six siblings who made it.  I can never tell them apart but since Chris didn't come, I know she's not pictured.  John must be the one holding the beer because it was his birthday and he drank one to celebrate.
John and Melissa were spending the week at Sampson State Park on Seneca Lake so one day was devoted to visiting them and getting out on the pontoon boat they rented.
We had a nice walk to Taughannock when Shannon was here with her kids.  Two generations of nieces and nephews.

 Walking in the creek.

Pat, Will and I then went to Frontenac Falls.  It's tough to get there but worth the effort.

Stacy has two new kayaks that she brought, and after a couple days of not putting them in the water, she and Sue couldn't resist (despite my warnings not to).  It had rained a bit, and Fall Creek drains a big watershed.  Those yellow triangles at the bottom are the 96-year median level for the date.
It took about a half hour before Sue lost the kayak she was in, but they alerted those waiting down stream to keep an eye out for it and when it never came down they knew it was hung up somewhere.  She and Brian went back the next day and waded in the (slightly) lower water and found it and were able to bring it up to the road.  Hardly a scratch on the boat or Sue.

The next day, I took them for a saner and safer tour of the Ithaca waterfront.  No kayaks were lost.

I never realized how similar Shannon's tattoos are to Gail's until seeing this photo.  And Dori is clearly short for Adorable.

The creek eventually dropped to safer levels, and with some secure rigging, a lot of fun was had hanging out on the inner tubes.
