A trip to WNY gave me a chance to spend a couple nights at Mt. Irenaeus, the Franciscan retreat I wish I could get to more often. I usually end up helping Brother Joe cut trees, but he was too tired from a tough day, so he gave me a paintbrush and asked me to blaze some of the trails. There was some confusion with people mistaking property lines for blazes which has led to a cross-blaze system to keep people on the right path. I decided to put in a few steps on the steep banks at a creek crossing.
A treat on this visit was meeting the architect who designed all their buildings and is working on a new one. You really should go there sometime to see what he, Dan, and the other friars have done. It is a real treasure.
